 The Peter Anson Sculpture.

The Peter Anson Sculpture is now standing at the front of ACE Winches premises near Banff and can be clearly seen from the A947 Banff to Turriff road.  The sculpture was first sketched by Association Chairman Stanley Bruce back in the summer of 2007.  The sculpture was built during February and March 2009 by Stanley Bruce assisted by fellow committee member Malcolm Smith.  Peter Anson (1889 to 1975) lived in Macduff from 1938 to 1958.

In 1921 Peter co-founded the Apostleship of the Sea, which is an organisation dedicated to administering to the material and spiritual needs of Catholic sea-farers.

In 1936 Peter was a founder member of the Society of Marine Artists. In 1966 the society was renamed the "Royal Society of Marine Artists".

In 1966 Peter was honoured by Pope Paul VI, who made him 'Knight of the Order of St. Gregory'. This honour was given as a tribute to his prolific literary and scholarly achievements.

During his life Peter wrote 35 books, on religion and fishing. He also painted around 1,000 paintings of which he donated 400 of them to the Buckie Town Council. These were specifically donated for display in the new Maritime Museum in the Buckie Town House, Cluny Square. He also donated others to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and also to the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Andstruther. The library at Buckie now has a section known as the Peter Anson Gallery.

A public consultation regarding the siting of the sculpture is to be held 26th to 28th June 2009 in Macduff Town Hall, members of the public will be given the opportunity to express their views to where they would like the sculpture to be sited.

The Association is also currently preparing a book highlighting the life of Peter Anson focusing on his time in the North East of Scotland.
