Carvel Or Clinker?

In wooden boatbuilding two methods are used, these are known as carvel built or clinker built.

Clinker built - Method of boatbuilding where the wooden planks are lapped over each other first to form the hull, and then the frames are fitted to hold it all together.

Carvel built – Method of boatbuilding where the frames are erected first, and then the wooden planks are butted together side by side to form the hull.  To ensure an effective seal between the planks is caulked.
